National One Rugby: Chinnor 28-50 Taunton Titans
TAUNTON arrived at Chinnor looking to capitalise on their recently improved form, and they kept to the script putting in an impressive performance, writes Hugh Duder.
Playing with the wind, Titans scored early on with a great run from Sam Prior, followed by quick handling out to winger Manni Freyi-Waboso who sprinted over in the corner.
This was in between two penalties for not rolling away for Chinnor so the score was 6-5.
Determined play then led to an Alex Spurdle try which was well converted by George Worboys to make the score 6-12 toTaunton.
A further score on 34 minutes after a lineout maul and drive put Alex Rodd over for Titans third try, which was converted by Worboys for 6-19.
The bonus point try came after a terrific team build up leading to Freyi-Waboso showing great skill to go under the posts for 6-26.
Chinnor scored on the stroke of half time and at the break the score was 11-26.
Within in a minute of the restart, turbo Sam Prior ran in under the posts for Taunton for a great solo try.
For the next ten minutes, excellent defence led by Nick Mason kept Chinnor out.
Another strong team attack led to Prior scoring his second try of the afternoon and the score was then 11-40.
On 63 minutes, Chinnor scored wide out for 18-40 but this was soon cancelled out by a penalty conversion from Worboys to make it 18-43.
Jay Toogood ran in Titans seventh try of the match in normal time which brought up the 50 points for Taunton.
Chinnor then scored twice in a lengthy injury time period and the final score was 28-50.
Head coach Tony Yapp said the boys have been working really hard and this result has been coming for some time.
He said: "They know how good they can be and we look forward to the rest of the season."
