Taunton’s robust defences held Esher off to secure victory on the road, as a number of errors mean the home side remain without a win so far this season.
The hosts started strong, with fly half Sam Morley scoring the first try of the afternoon in the third minute, sneaking his way under the posts to leave himself an easy task for the conversion kick. Taunton were next to score, thanks to Toby East, with Jordan Gott adding the extras to draw them level.
The hosts took the lead yet again as Morley scored his second of the afternoon with a flourish, before converting again. Taunton followed suit almost immediately, as fullback Connor Banks raced through, with Gott converting again to bring them back level.
A yellow card for Esher’s Jack Rouse, for a deliberate knock on, on the stroke of half time gave the visitors the perfect opportunity to take the lead, with Isaac Dalton doing the honours, and Gott once again adding the extras as they headed into the break.
Despite being a man down, Esher went on the offensive from kick-off in the second half, but were twice thwarted by the Taunton defence as the ball was held up. The Titans were next to score, with Jordan Petherbridge securing the bonus point for the visitors, although this time the conversion missed its mark.
One final try for Esher, coming this time thanks to Nathan Jibulu, as the game neared its end kept the home side’s hopes alive, as the resulting yellow card for Taunton’s Sam Knott helped their chances of drawing level at the death. It wasn’t to be, however, as another error gave the Titans a penalty kick to seal their victory as the game drew to a close.
