Hull Vs Taunton Titans

Hull and back is a 540-mile round trip and the furthest the Titans have ever travelled for a National One League fixture.   Both teams were aware of the importance of this game and it was the visitors who opened the scoring after seven minutes with a Charlie Wright touch down followed by an interception by Frankie Dart within 5 yards of his own line and then a 95 yards sprint to dab down under the Hull posts with the conversion again being made by Iwan Jenkins, writes Hugh Duder.   Then on 26 minutes "Sniffer" Isaac Dalton scored a try after a solid push-over from the Titans' pack and again Iwan was successful with the extras.   Only a fumble by the Taunton defence on their own 22-yard line let in Hull for a try to open their account ,leaving the score at half time Hull 7 Titans 21 and the Somerset boys looking comfortable(ish!).

The home side came out for the second period with a steely determination and were first to trouble the scoreboard with a well taken try by their man of the match, full back Mike Adlard, which was converted to bring the score to 14-21.    A superb try-saving tackle by Taunton's Toby East kept Hull from an equalising score and almost immediately afterwards Charlie Wright scored his second, converted by Jenkins and Taunton then edged further ahead through Frankie Dart's second score to show the score line at 21-33.   Jenkins then scored a penalty in front of the posts making it 21-36 and then on 71 minutes Hull crept back into the game with an exceptional try from Adlard running in from 50 yards which brought it back to 28-36 and with time ebbing away.   Titans dominated the closing minutes to come away worthy winners 28-36 which could have been added to had not the touch judge ruling that Connor Banks had a foot in touch as he reached for the line

Titans' head coach, Tony Yapp, said afterwards "It was great to bounce back after the previous week's disappointment against Chinnor.   We knew it would be hard and be tough on the road.   Our man of the match was our No8, Ben Oliphant-Thompson."
