Taunton man of the match Jack Walsh in his first season of senior rugby and at only 20 years of age showed his class in scoring 14 of Taunton’s 29 points.
Bishops Stortford were very quickly off the mark when they tapped an early penalty for the wing Josh Stannard to go over in the corner for Powell to convert. The lead did not last long as within 10 minutes of the half Taunton back row Jarard Hayler went over for a try which Walsh converted. Then came the try of the game with Taunton full back Franky Dart taking ball in his own 22 outpacing the advancing Stortford players and breaking well into the Stortford half before feeding on to Walsh who completely outpaced the Stortford defence for a try which he duly converted. Taunton turned around with a 4-point lead which with only 3 minutes of the second half gone Dalton scored a try which Walsh missed the conversion. This lead was soon extended when Walsh made a superb break from outside half passing on to his centre Tarling who scored for Walsh to add the extras. Stortford were soon back with Stannard scoring his second of the afternoon. Taunton then seemed to have most of the play even when Walsh received a yellow card, they could not break down Taunton. However, Stortford stuck to the task and scored two tries in the last 10 minutes to earn a draw well against the run of play and against all the possession.
