By the end of the match, it was difficult to distinguish one team from the other as both were covered in the same-coloured mud so it is with great credit to both teams that even in these conditions they never gave up to attempting to play an expansive rugby.
Taunton scored the first try after 13 minutes with a well-controlled maul wide-out Walsh failed to convert leaving Taunton with a 5 points to nil lead. There second came from a similar situation which again was not converted. At this point Taunton were having majority of the ball and attacking the Darlington line when a penalty was given away when with a little more discipline, it should have been a Taunton try. This allowed Darlington to clear their line and to set up an attack close to the Taunton line from which they scored a try to be converted by Law the Darlington centre. The half finished with Taunton having a slender three point lead.
The second half began with Darlington halving more urgency and with only 9 minutes of the half gone Darlington No8 Oliver Hodgson crashed over for a try which Law converted to put them in from with a four-point lead. Just three minutes later Greg Kitson the Taunton right wing pounced on a loose ball and raced from within his own half to score in the corner which this time Walsh converted to restore that three-point half time lead. It was man of the match and Taunton captain who went over for his third try of the afternoon to seal the game and the try bonus point which Walsh converted leaving Taunton worthy winners.
