Titans Vs Cornish Pirates

Over 1000 people came into the Taunton Veritas Park to watch a game which in the first half showed a gap between the top of the Championship and mid-way in Division 1.  In the first half Pirates scored 5 un answered tries three of which were by hooker and captain Will Crane.  In the forwards Titans competed well and matched Pirates man for man but it was as Pirates recycled the ball and spun it wide that their speed and pace opened the Taunton defence.  Some desperate well-timed tackles by Taunton stopped what looked to be certain tries by the Pirates many of these by Freddie Fraser covering back.  The second half was completely different with Taunton giving many of their squad a chance to show their merits and Penzance fielding a new team.  In this half Taunton at last scored when scrum half Connor Banks weaved through the Penzance defence to score.  This was converted by Taunton number 10 Jordan Gott and the score was reduced to 7points to 29. Penzance then scored two more converted tries to open the gap to 7 points to 43but Taunton came back to score on the stroke of full time with Wilf McCarthy out pacing the Penzance defence to score a try which Jordan Gott again converted leaving the second half even with two converted tries.  There were many new faces in the Taunton Team, and Charlie Walker-Blair who we had not seen for several years who was awarded the “Man of the Match” for Taunton.  In the spirit of the game a further bottle of gin was awarded to the Pirate’s “Man of the Match” their captain Will Crane.  The Pirate’s coaches were very complimentary after the game and made generous comments on how well Taunton had challenged and some of the outstanding play of the Taunton Team.
