Wearing number nine was Ollie Guest with his brother Josh wearing the number ten shirt, wearing number eleven was Marcus Heath and his brother Ben the number twelve shirt.  Between them they were able to finish off some outstanding play by the rest of the team to score six of the eight tries which the Warriors scored in the match.  The spectators thought that there were two more from some outstanding forward drives but the referee deemed them to be held up.

From the kick off the Warriors showed their intent by chasing down the catcher who in laying the ball back for his team created a knock on.  From this first scrum Taunton pressed the Old Bristolians (OB’s)line and came close to scoring but in so doing gave away two penalties in succession and it was soon OB’s on the attack.  On six minutes the number10 channel opened like the “Red Sea” and OB’s number 10 strode through for a gifted try which was converted to give them a seven-point lead.  This only lasted for three-minutes as from the kick off Taunton pressure resulted in the mearning a scrum with Taunton attacking the OB’s line to be stopped just short but from the maul Oliver Wrelton broke off to score the try which Josh Guest converted to level the scores.  OB’s put together some good attacking moves and it was only some outstanding defence by the Warriors which stopped the home side taking the advantage.  Gradually the Warriors worked their way back towards the OB’s line good rucks and rolling mauls by the forwards resulted in Marcus Heath using his outstanding pace to go in for a try close to the corner flag.  Josh missed the kick but the Warriors held that slim5-point lead.  Just three-minutes later brother Ben made the break, shrugged off two tackles and went in for a try which Josh converted, a twelve-point lead.  OB’s came back with some very good play which was thwarted by some outstanding tackling.  Taunton gave away a penalty and a kick to the corner.  This spelt danger for the Warriors but second row Nick Payne stole the lineout and the Warriors cleared their line.  Back came OB’s and on 22-minutes that number ten channel opened yet again with the dummy being taken and OB’s went in for a converted try just a 5-point advantage again to the Warriors.  From the kick off OB’s again attacked but the Warrior’s defence held firm but in so doing Kauejao Koupanguo (Pangy) took a nasty knock to his shoulder and he was replaced by Harry Beasley.  The Warriors were losing ball in their attacks and giving opportunities to OB’s and it was the outstanding defence that kept them out.  With just three minutes of the half left the Warriors were reduced to 14 players with a yellow card but they held on.

A lot of defending was needed at the start of the second half which was well rewarded when Benn Heath gave a show and go, his strength took him through the tackles and his pace over the line for the fourth and bonus point try which Josh converted.  Just 4-minutes later and Ollie Guest went in for the try from some excellent forward build up play.  Josh missed the conversion but the Warriors now had a 17-point lead.  The fitness and conditioning of the Warriors was starting to show and they were dominating play with OB’s being stretched.  With twenty minutes left the Warriors introduced 18 years old prop George Francis into the front row. Harry Hodge gave way and it meant that Sean Heggerty had to move from tighthead to loose head.  What an asset this is to have a prop who has the skills and knowledge to play both sides.  On 65-minutes OB’s were reduced to 14 players when they received a yellow card.  The Warriors used their advantage and Ollie Guest was rewarded with his second try and OB’s being reduced to 13 players with another yellow card.  This did not stop them attacking the Warriors and on one such attack in the Warriors 22 the defence created an opportunity for Josh Guest to intercept the ball in that attack and sprint the length of the pitch for a try which he converted.  OB’s were restored to 14 players and with just two minutes of the game remaining attacked the Warriors line again.  With only Will Parry the Warriors full back to beat he pulled of a superb tackle to save a certain try but OB’s managed to recycle the ball and score the try taking them to 19-points.  Taunton kick off with eighty minutes on the clock, OB’s go for the ball so does Nick Payne who has made the chase, he taps back Andy England and Oliver Wrelton start the maul from the OB’s 10 metre line, Archie Stokes the hooker breaks off, bounces off one tackler and then another and outpaces the defence over the last 30metres to score the try.  The Warriors now have 48-points and we all waitwith bated breath can Josh add the two.  He does and the Warriors end the game with fifty-points with OB’s gaining nineteen.

Whilst the score seems to show a dominant Warriors, they had to work very hard for the win and showed some superb team work throughout.  They will need all of this next week when they travel to Gloucester to play Gordon League.  With all of their three September matches away you will not be able to see some of that young talent coming through so we hope to build up your enthusiasm for October.
