If ever a win were vital for Taunton Titans it’s this Saturday. Tony Yapp and Chris Brown have bolstered their squad with some exciting looking loan signings, notably former Wasps full-back Immanuel Feyi-Waboso who has found a new home at Exeter Chiefs from whom fly half Iwan Jenkins has also joined on a dual-registration arrangement. Meanwhile Bath have provided winger Gabe Goss and Fly Half George Worboys to reinforce the back division.
With a little over a third of the season remaining, it’s time for Titans to rediscover their winning ways but it won’t be easy this weekend with Sale FC in town. The Cheshire side currently occupies top spot in National League One and are fresh from beating Devonian rivals Plymouth Albion 45-35 at Heywood Road.
Formed in 1861, making it the fifth oldest surviving rugby club, Sale FC is the parent club of the Sale Sharks team in the Premiership but competes as its own distinct amateur entity.
Coached by Director of Rugby Jonathan Keep, himself a formidable player in his time, Sale finished second to Cheshire rivals Caldy in last season’s National League One. Like Tony Yapp, Keep abides by the mantra of always looking to improve upon the previous year’s finish so there is no secret that the league leaders are targeting promotion to the Championship this time around.
Titans ran Sale close when the teams met at Heywood Road in September, registering a losing bonus point in a 31-24 defeat. Known as the ‘Dogs’ and playing in the traditional blue and white shirts, Sale FC boasts several players with Premiership rugby experience. They present a tough challenge but one that Taunton must withstand to arrest their slide down the table into the relegation positions.
