Taunton Vets travelled to Minehead and did themselves proud.
With a junior touring side from Coventry there were a lot of dads who wanted a runout so it was a bit of a triangular tournament thingy.
Taunton played Minehead first session and even though the scoreline didn't go our way there was some noticeable performances, Vince Carrington at 70yrs ran around like a man half his age, and played a later session too. James Kenworthy was down to ref but at 62yrs young his had no issues coming on for a injured player and soon got stuck in, he did also pass the superman audition, we still don't know if he was going for a big bruiser tackle or an intercept but he flew threw the air with both arms out - if only he had a cape.
Minehead scored 4 tries to nil, but our Vets never gave up and we gave a good account of ourselves. We got close a few times but the BBQ was quite close and was distracting for a few players.
In the last session against the touring side most of the players mixed and matched with the Minehead lads to have an extra run, the water was replaced with cider to pep the lads up. We won the final session as a combined team.
It really was a great day at Minehead, big thanks to all that turned up and Ritchy Parsons for organising.
