Taunton Vets travelled down to Devon to take on Bideford Vets in a great game of open free rugby and plenty of cheating.
The hosts had a squad of about 30 but Taunton only managed17 and after Steve Harris pulled up with a ankle issue Vince (vic) Carrington 68 years young played most of the game. He took care of 4 different props and never went backwards.
Scott (scooter) Laver scored a hattrick of tries, the pace and power still there for the flying winger.
Ian Hudson in the second row grabbed a couple with some big powerful runs.
Chris Dennehy scored under the posts after a wonderful backrow move foxed the defence and through he went.
Doug Baker slotted 4 conversions off a plastic coffee cup as the kicking Tee had rotted away in his kitbag.
It really was a fun game played in great spirit, thanks to Jim (ken) Kenworthy who came with us to ref the game.
Some great lineout throws from the ever accurate James Dean made life easy for Rob Cooling soaring high to give quick(ish) ball to scrumhalf James Tressider. well played all.
Bideford even brought on a 72 year old in the second row for the last 10 minutes who cheated for 9 of them - well played.
