Titans Vs Hull Preview

According to all the research I did, when Taunton Titans travel to Humberside on Saturday it will be their first ever fixture against Hull RUFC. Situated in the East Riding of Yorkshire, the city of Hull (or Kingston-upon-Hull to give it its official title) is perhaps more famous for its Rugby League teams with the 13-man code sides Hull FC and Hull Kingston Rovers both competing in Super League.

If you’re travelling North for the game, make sure you head to the right stadium as Hull RUFC is one of two National League sides in Union – the other, Hull Ionians, playing in National League Two North. Coming off a home defeat to Chinnor, Titans find themselves in the relegation spots and will be keen for a win against Hull RUFC at LTS Leisure Ferens Ground on Charterlands Avenue, approximately 2.5 miles from the city centre and adjacent to Hull Sports Centre.

Promoted as champions of National League Two North last season, Hull RUFC is playing at the highest level it has yet reached since its formation in 1992 following the merger of Old Hymerians RUFC and Hull and East Riding RUFC (1989). Like fellow promoted side Esher, at present they are winless and sit in last place in the table. No journey to the North-East will be taken for granted though by Tony Yapp and his squad.

Back row Alex Todd will be familiar to the Titans’ coach from his time at Exeter University whilst fly-half Joe Carlisle has experience with both Worcester Warriors and Wasps so one can only hope Hull RUFC’s finances are in good shape. They are coached by Gary Pearce with the experienced Clive Griffiths in charge of defence, whilst dual-code Tongan international winger Tevita Vaikona is possibly their most famous alumnus.

Entrance to theFerens Ground is £10 per adult whilst Under 16s get in free of charge. A £20three-course pre-match lunch of soup, meat pie and cheese board can be bookedby contacting David Piercy (tel. 07801 218810 or email david.piercy@piercydesign.co.uk)before noon on Thursday. Parking is available at the Charterlands Avenue ground.Kick-off is at 3pm.

The 2nd XV are at home this weekend Vs Hornets 2nd XV which is set to be a big test and another entertaining fixture here at Veritas Park. Pre Lunch is available at £10 a head and will be a hot buffet. There is no gate entry to these games.
