TRFC Youth Section Update

For anyone venturing down to Veritas Park on a Sunday morning, you would be amazed by the sheer number of our youth players ranging from ages 4 to 16, committed parents and outstanding volunteers who coach, manage, safeguard and ensure rugby is played and enjoyed by all with a smile (in all weathers!). It is truly awesome!

We are lucky enough to have over 300+ players in our youth section, and it is still growing on a weekly basis as word spreads how much fun can be had!

So far this season the youth section held a Quiz Night Fundraiser at the club and also have a Race Night scheduled for 3rd February 2023. All are welcome to book a table (£10pp inc. hot buffet) or even sponsor a race (£30)! For further details please email youth@tauntonrfc.co.uk and we will pass details onto the organiser.

These fundraising events raise much needed funds to ensure our youth coaches are fully qualified, our equipment is safe and current and our players get the best experience in their time at Taunton RFC. Individual age groups also fundraise for items they require specifically for their own age groups on some home games, which means cake stalls, raffles, sweet stalls etc! Never a dull moment!

Our HUGE grateful thanks goes to the 200 club who donated £1000 this season towards the youth sections necessary training kit after 2 seasons of no fundraising due to COVID! With the price of everything going up from rugby balls to First Aid Kits this was greatly appreciated!

So far this season the U7-U12’s have played home and away games since the beginning of October, with great reports coming from all age groups of excellent play & sportsmanship. As many of our age groups have a lot of players all our teams are happy to lend opposing teams players just to have a fun match.

Our juniors are just entering into the Somerset Junior Cup phase of the season with the first games for the U15 & U16’s being played this coming Sunday (06/11) at Veritas Park. We hope to see some of the younger age groups staying to cheer on our teams after their training sessions. The U14’s have already progressed to the next round!

The Youth Section is committed to the club initiative of #RESPECTTHEREF and we ask all our visitors to adhere to this too!

Youth Team Of The Month - Sharks U8's

2021/22 was our first season as the Sharks and It was more than we could’ve hoped for. As coaches, we can all confidently say, that getting up on a Sunday morning, come wind, rain, freezing temperatures or fallen fences, has been more enjoyable than any of us had anticipated!

The development and endeavour of the Sharks has been absolutely stunning. They have all advanced in so many ways this season. From some not being able to catch a ball in the early days, to the final game, when they were passing on the run and really using their heads to overcome problems in a game situation.
